1.What were you doing for work before the pandemic?

Freelance journalism and content creation for brands. Some of the journalistic work has dried up as freelance budgets have tightened but I’ve been busier on brand content creation, surprisingly so.

2.What do you miss spending money on these days?

Theatre. Movies. Going to Jays and Raps games. Some clothes.

3.How do you think your spending will change after the pandemic?

Going to less bars and restaurants out of an abundance for caution. Will continue to use some delivery services such as beer delivery and virtual farmers market, which I never did before the pandemic. Likely going to spend more $ on going to sports and might rejoin a gym near me…but also quite happy working out from home.

4.What are your tips on how to cut costs?

Cook at home more. Drink less alcohol. Walk instead of Uber and TTC when applicable. Put savings away from each cheque/payment. Look out for deals on online sites or nearby stores.

5.Do you feel that there is uncertainty about how your work will look after the pandemic ends? If so, what are you doing to cope with this uncertainty?

There is always uncertainty in freelance writing, so I’m quite used to that up in the airness. More uncertainty now for sure, especially with news outlets, so what I always do is just work harder. Keep coming up with stronger pitches for editors, and cold-call brand managers to inquire about their freelance needs. I’ll also spend a bit of money on Facebook Ads for a consulting business I plan on launching in August
